Kahlua’s Classic White Russian

I can’t say for sure whether it was the subliminal messaging  from the slew of Halloween costumes of “The Dude” I encountered this Halloween, or the cold end of autumn weather outside that has me craving the coffee flavor of Kahlúa, but I am  counting down until I can head home from work and cozy up on the couch with a deliciously classic, White Russian.

Academy Award-winning actor, Jeff Bridges, has been in the mood for the Kahlúa classic as well with his recent role in a  Kahlúa Productions short film in which Bridges recounts an adventure-filled story with twists and turns for the characters, all while sipping on a classic White Russian cocktail. In a company release Bridges states, “The White Russian is one of the most popular classic cocktails and it’s seeing a massive revival right now, so to work with Kahlúa on this project is great timing.”  Bridges continued, “As a short film entirely inspired by a simple classic cocktail, this story is creative, enigmatic and beautifully shot.”

Check out the short film here: YouTube.com/KahluaVideo while you sip on a classic White Russian of your own:

Friday Feature Cocktail: Whipped Russian

Every once in a while Friday rolls around and there is nothing I look forward to more than a night of doing absolutely nothing. Today is one of those Friday’s, and I have decided that a Whipped Russian is going to be my cocktail of choice tonight. This sweet twist on the White Russian is the perfect drink to accompany me as I cozy up under a blanket on the couch, where I’ll most likely spend my night watching my DVDs of Friday Night Lights.

Hiram Walker’s sweet twist on the White Russian using Hiram Walker Whipped Liqueur.

Whipped Russian

Shake well with ice.  Strain over crushed ice and serve

The coffee flavor of the Kahlua and cream, spiked with the sweetness of Hiram Walker Whipped Liqueur provides a delicious combination of flavor for a crisp autumn night. The Whipped Russian is also a tasty treat after dinner if you prefer liquid desserts like I do!!

Also, a reminder to those interested in winning an iPad, there are still a few days left to submit your photos of Hiram Walker Whipped to the ‘Whip Things Up!’ Contest! All photos must be submitted by October 31, so this weekend is a great opportunity to have some fun whipping up your best photos! Check out more information HERE or HERE!

Enjoy 🙂

A new spin on the White Russian

How do I love thy White Russians? Let me count the (new) ways.

NYC journalist Robert Simonson has unearthed in his blog Off the Presses four new spins on the classic Kahlúa cocktail. But, hold on to your bowling bags, dudes, as these recipes involve a bit more work than I think Gary the Bartender could concoct. Think lots of egg whites, for example. One new recipe even calls for 1 young coconut!

Here’s the standard recipe, if you’re looking to do just as The Dude does.

White Russian:

2 parts Kahlúa

1 part ABSOLUT vodka

Add milk or cream (I always go with skim milk)

Pour over ice in a rocks glass. You can also try with vanilla or raspberry vodka.

Cheers!
