…Winter’s Not Over Yet

As to be expected for New England weather, the end of February does not mean the end of the cold. Just as we have experienced with the beginning of the previous few months, March is expected to begin with another round of snow. With the pavement finally showing again in my driveway, but the green grass still a distant memory, I have decided to get my fix of green through cocktails (which will also be a great prep for the lovely holiday of St. Paddy’s Day just a couple short weeks away).

Here are a couple green cocktails to chase away my winter blues…

Emerald City Martini

  • 1 part Hiram Walker® Melon Liqueur
  • 1 part Malibu®
  • ½ part Hiram Walker® Black Raspberry

Shake and serve straight up over the Black Raspberry at the bottom of the glass. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Minty Sangria

(can be served as a pitcher)

  • 3 parts Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc
  • 3 parts peach nectar
  • 1 part Absolut Mandrin
  • Several mint leaves (for every one serving, use 8-10 mint leaves)

Directions: Slap the mint leaves between your palms to release oils, then drop into glass.  Add ice and remaining ingredients and stir.

Green Delight

  • 1½ parts Hiram Walker® Melon Liqueur
  • 1 part Beefeater® Gin
  • 1 part Hiram Walker® Triple Sec

Shake all the ingredients together in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into Martini glass. Garnish with orange wheel.

Green Delight

Enjoy and if you’re in New England, stay warm!

Sangria, Not Just For Summer!

It is a common belief that Sangria is only to be enjoyed out on the deck, on a warm summer evening (preferably by the beach) with family and friends around. While I wish that I could be back in summertime, enjoying that Sangria by the beach right about now, it is important to acknowledge great winter Sangrias as well. Below is one winter Sangria recipe that pairs perfectly with an evening of family and friends sitting by the fireplace as snow falls outside your window!

While your family gatherings may not be as picture perfect as the one I just described (don’t worry my family isn’t straight out of a Christmas movie either) it is still a great recipe to serve during the holidays!

Sandeman Winter Spice Sangria

  • 1 Bottle Of Sandeman Founders Reserve Porto
  • 4oz Hiram Walker Original Cinn Cinnamon Schnapps
  • 3 Clementine’s, Quartered
  • 6oz Cranberries
  • 18oz Sparkling Clementine Juice Or Soda
  • 6oz Cranberry Juice
  • 4 Cinnamon Sticks
  • Ground Allspice To Taste

Directions:  Combine Sandeman Founders Reserve Porto, cinnamon schnapps, Clementine pieces, cranberries, cranberry juice and cinnamon sticks in a large pitcher. Cover tightly and place in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours. Right before serving, add sparkling Clementine juice/soda

Garnish:  sprinkle allspice on top

Enjoy!

Friday Feature Cocktail: Sparkling Sangria

With every passing day we’re getting closer and closer to the end of the summer. For as long as I can remember summer has been my favorite season, and when Mother Nature begins bringing the cool breezy air of fall, it also brings sadness along with it (this is nowhere near the sadness that winter brings, but that’s a different story!) With the end of August upon us, I have made it my personal goal to enjoy all of the traditions of summer as often as possible, which to me means BBQs and boozy summer beverages!

What says summer more than a Sparkling Sangria served up with some burgers and dogs from the grill? You’re right, nothing! This edition of our Friday Feature Cocktail Sangria is a delicious Sparkling Sangria recipe from Jacob’s Creek!

JC Sparkling Sangria:

  • 4 parts Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Moscato Rosé
  • 1 part Hiram Walker Triple Sec
  • .75 part Fresh Lemon juice
  • .5 part Pineapple juice
  • 5 Cinnamon sticks
  • 3 Strawberries, halved
  • 1 whole green apple and 1 whole lime, sliced

Build in a pitcher or punch bowl, and stir. Float slices of apple and lime.

This sweet and refreshing Sangria is best served on a hot day, so be sure to serve this at all of your end of summer BBQs while you still can!

Enjoy and Happy Friday everyone 🙂

Summertime in a Bowl

Summertime in a bowl, ain't it?

Summer is officially open for the season and with that come a few of my favorite things in the great outdoors: laying in the sun by the pool or at the park,  playing loads of tennis, or turning up the grill for some great seasonal grub (this weekend saw a collection of burgers and grilled asparagus and potatoes).  That great grilling component is of course made more complete with the addition of a beverage or two!

I posted this White Peach Sangria recipe on my own Facebook page over the weekend and had some overwhelming positive responses from friends to serve this big bowl of summertime joy over the coming months. So while I may have missed the unofficial start to summer this weekend, there are plenty more quintessential outdoor celebrations still to come this summer – best yet, this recipe fits the bill for them all!

White Peach Sangria

Combine all the ingredients in a large punch bowl filled with PLENTY of ice.

Cheers!
SJ
