Halfway to St. Paddy’s Day!

As I was catching up on exciting daily happenings, as provided by Twitter this morning, I realized that St. Patrick’s day is only 6 months away from today! As someone who is just about half Irish, I find it fully acceptable to celebrate the halfway mark to such a great holiday! Tonight after work I fully intend to open up some Jameson and mix myself up a (or maybe two) delicious whiskey cocktail(s).

First up, will be a perfect cocktail to accompany the fall weather and autumn mindset:

Apple Crumble Martini
  • 1.5 parts Jameson Irish Whiskey
  • .75 part Hiram Walker Butterscotch Schnapps
  • 1.5 parts Pressed Apple Juice
  • .5 part Lime Juice
  • 1 part Sugar Syrup
 Shake and strain.

Next up will be a fun drink from Mama Walker’s breakfast flavored liqueurs: Mama said WHAT?!

  • 2 parts Mama Walker’s Maple Bacon Liqueur
  • 1 part Jameson Irish Whiskey

Shake all ingredients in shaker with ice, strain into chilled shot glass and serve

Friday Feature Cocktail: The Galway Girl

Happy Friday and almost St. Patrick’s Day! The St. Pat’s drinks continue this week as we approach March 17. While I am unfortunately not from Galway, I can say that I have been there and it is just as gorgeous as you would imagine. While there, I got to see the flags of the fourteen Tribes of Galway in Eyre Square, and Joyce was one of them (that’s my last name for those of you that don’t know).  A Joyce was also the creator of the Claddagh Ring in Galway, so as far as I’m concerned my last name allows me to call myself a “Galway Girl” on St. Patrick’s Day 😉

My dad and I in Galway under the Joyce flag!

Hope you all have a safe and wonderful St. Patrick’s Day!

Slainte!

Friday Feature Cocktail: Irish Margarita

St. Patrick’s Day is now less than 10 days away and the pub crawls and parades will be in full swing this weekend (at least they will be where I am)! As I mentioned in my first St. Pat’s post, I want to share some fun and festive drinks that don’t include the ingredients: beer & green food coloring. Today’s featured cocktail puts an Irish spin on a classic party favorite:

Snowstorm Essentials!

If you live anywhere in the Northeast, you’ve been bombarded by weather forecasts warning you to beware of the “crippling and potentially historic” storm that is heading our way. With the threat of 15+ inches expected to hit my little town in CT, I see this as a great opportunity to cozy up with a nice cocktail and watch the snow fall (or watch the dozens of shows left on my DVR).

During snowstorms (or in my case potential blizzards) it is essential to be prepared with the right provisions to help you brave the weather…here are my top 5 must-haves:

  1. Hot Chocolate: When the cold wind is blowing outside your window and you’re bundled up on the couch, nothing warms you up better than a steaming mug of hot chocolate.
  2. Schnapps/Liqueur: Because all hot chocolate needs a friend… I recommend spiking your hot chocolate with Hiram Walker Whipped Liqueur, Peppermint Schnapps or Original Cinn Cinnamon Schnapps.
  3.  Tea: Some people just don’t enjoy hot chocolate, while I don’t understand how this is possible, a piping hot tea can serve as a nice replacement to warm you up.
  4. Whiskey: Because like hot chocolate, tea needs friends as well. A personal tea-favorite of mine is a hot toddy with Jameson Irish Whiskey.
  5. Red Wine: When all else fails, a nice glass of red wine works wonders in the winter cold, especially when warming up by a toasty fire.

I hope all of you Northeasterners stay safe and warm during the storm!

Enjoy

Friday Feature Cocktail: Jameson Whirlaway

The first full week of work after the holidays is finally over, and I’m ready to relax and unwind from the busy work week with a nice refreshing cocktail. With the icy cold temperatures outside, and the chilly winter breeze, I’m in the mood for a nice whiskey drink to warm me up.

The inclusion of club soda and White Peach Schnapps in the Jameson Whirlaway makes for a light and refreshing addition to the classic taste of Jameson Irish Whiskey.

Jameson Whirlaway

Mix all ingredients except Club Soda in a shaker with cracked ice. Pour into a tumbler and top with club soda.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Enjoy

Celebrating Veteran’s Day with a ‘Homecoming Hero’

Today I will be raising my glass to toast our veterans, and those who are still serving our country. As the granddaughter of two WWII veterans, and a friend of many who are still serving our country today, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all who have/are/will serve!

This one’s for you:

Homecoming Hero

Serve over ice in a rocks glass, garnish with a cherry.

Cheers and thank you veterans!
