Super Bowl Sippers

It’s that time again! Time for you to pile onto your friend’s couch and load up on all of the best chips/dips/apps/finger foods/etc. you possibly can. Since all of the salty, greasy, delicious food will most likely leave you thirsty, here are some delicious and festive cocktails to help you wash down your feast with:

Seahawk  Celebration
•    4 cups ABSOLUT vodka
•    2 cups Hiram Walker Triple Sec
•    2 liters ginger ale
•    1/2 cup fresh cranberries (whole)
•    3.5 liters cranberry juice
•    2 cups orange juice
•    2 limes (sliced)
•    2 oranges (sliced)
Mix ingredients in a large serving bowl. Serve over ice in a rock glass. (multiple servings)

Berry Bronco
•    3 Parts Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc
•    3 Strawberries, Chopped
•    1 Part Beefeater Gin
•    Agave Nectar To Taste
•    Juice Of ¼ Of A Lemon
In the bottom of a mixing glass, muddle the strawberries in the lemon and agave nectar. Add remaining ingredients and shake well with ice. Strain over ice into a wine glass.

Friday Feature Cocktail: Brandy Cocktail

It’s finally Friday, which means it’s time for another cocktail! (Although I may have had a cocktail earlier in the week, but that’s besides the point) This week I’m in the mood for something to warm me up as another cold weekend awaits. This simple, but satisfying cocktail is the perfect drink to sip on by the fire as you  fight the chill outside!

  • 2 parts Martell Cognac
  • .5 part Hiram Walker Triple Sec
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 2 dashes Peychauds bitters
Shake and strain.

Friday Feature Cocktail: Pineapple Paradise

Every year once the holidays are over and it’s back to full work weeks and busy days, I begin daydreaming of tropical vacations and lazy days on the beach. Since the weather outside is far from that of the Caribbean, I plan on fulfilling my vacation dreams with a nice tropical cocktail (because of course that’s the next best thing). The Pineapple Paradise mixes the sweet and fruity flavors of coconut and pineapple that are synonymous with warm weather getaways.

Pineapple Paradise

  • 1½ parts Malibu® Coconut
  • ¾ part Pineapple Juice
  • Splash Hiram Walker Blue Curacao
  • Splash of Coconut Cream

Shake ingredients with ice and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a pineapple slice.

Friday Feature Cocktail: Hot Toddy

Tomorrow is National Hot Toddy Day! While any day of the winter is a good day to enjoy a Hot Toddy, National Hot Toddy Day is a GREAT day to enjoy a Hot Toddy. For a traditional Hot Toddy I’ve featured a Jameson Hot Toddy recipe, courtesy of Jameson Whiskey. If you’re looking for a little more flavor in your Hot Toddy, I recommend the Hot Cinn Apple Toddy!

Hot Cinn Apple Toddy

  • 1 ½ parts Bourbon
  • 1 ½ parts Hiram Walker Original Cinn Schnapps
  • 1.2 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tsp agave nectar
  • Hot apple cider
  • Green apple slice dipped in hot caramel or cinnamon stick for garnish

Pour the bourbon, schnapps and lemon juice into an Irish coffee glass or mug. Stir well. Fill with hot apple cider. Garnish with the green apple or a cinnamon stick.  

 Classic Hot Toddy

  • 3 parts Jameson
  • 2 parts lemon juice
  • 1 part honey
  • 4 parts hot water
  • 2-3 cloves
  • Lemon slice

Pour all ingredients into a mug or glass with a handle, stir until the honey is dissolved, drop in the cloves and garnish with a thin slice of lemon.

Bloody Marys Anyone?

Yesterday was National Bloody Mary Day (which seems like very appropriate timing). Since some people might not have been able to celebrate yesterday, I am giving full permission to celebrate today. Bloody Marys are famous for being great brunch cocktails, but I believe they taste just as great at any time of the day, any day of the week.  Below are two nontraditional Bloody Mary recipes to try out this year for National Bloody Mary Day!

Mama’s Ruby Shoes

  • 2 parts Mama Walker’s Maple Bacon
  • 4 parts Tomato Juice
  • 2 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
  • 4 dashes Hot Sauce
  • juice of 1/2 of lemon
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • 1 tsp horseradish

Combine all ingredients in shaker with ice. Roll back and forth. Pour into a highball glass.

If vodka isn’t your favorite, give it a try with tequila:

Avión Bloody Mary

  • 2 parts Avión Silver
  • 2 parts Tomato Juice
  • 2 tsp Horseradish
  • .5 part Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Dashes Hot Sauce
  • Squeeze Lemon
  • Squeeze Lime
  • Salt and Pepper

Build, stir, and serve. Do not shake.avion-bloody-maria
