There are many reason’s to sport red, white and blue this week: the World Cup (Go USA), the 4th of July…okay so maybe there are just two reasons, but they are great reasons! Today I’ve got a delicious, frozen blue cocktail to cool you down from the summer heat while showing off your American Pride (HINT: if you pour your blue drink into a red cup with a white straw, there ya go red, white and blue!)
Blue Lagoon Cocktail
- ¼ part Hiram Walker® Blue Curacao
- 1 part ABSOLUT® Vodka
- 1 part Pineapple Juice
Blend with ice and serve.
Enjoy and Go USA!
Today’s featured cocktail is inspired by the favorite fruit of summer, the watermelon. The refreshing and sweet taste of watermelon is the perfect addition to any summertime cocktail, including the summer favorite Margarita. A classic Margarita on the rocks is always a perfect choice, but once August rolls around you may be looking to switch it up, which is where I come in with the Watermelon Margarita:
- 1 part Avion® Silver Tequila
- 1 part Hiram Walker® Watermelon Schnapps
- 3/4 part Hiram Walker® Triple-Sec
- Fresh lime juice
Shake with ice. Strain into glass.
If you REALLY want to shake up your Margaritas and you’re a big fan of bacon (and it seems like most people are these days) you can also give the Maplerita a try!
- 2 parts Reposado Tequila
- 2 parts Mama Walker’s Maple Bacon
- 1 part fresh lime juice
- .5 part simple syrup
Add all ingredients to shaker with ice. Strain over ice in highball glass and serve
Happy Friday & Enjoy :)
It’s a hot and sunny summer day and I’m craving a nice refreshing cocktail! I’ll be going home and lighting the tiki torches and imagining that my CT deck is a Caribbean poolside paradise. A tropical cocktail is the perfect prop to help set the mood, and today’s feature cocktail is a Blue Hawaiian!
Hiram Walker Blue Hawaiian!

4th of July is just around the corner, and when I think of the perfect way to spend the holiday I think of hamburgers, pasta salad, fireworks, sparklers, and of course, cocktails! It’s never too early to start planning your drink menu, and below are some festive “sparkler” cocktails to pair with your July 4th festivities!
Pink Berry Sparkler
- 1 oz. pineapple juice
- 5 raspberries
- 3 oz. Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Moscato Rose
In a mixing glass, muddle the raspberries. Add the pineapple juice and Moscato Rose, with ice, and stir briefly. Strain into a chilled champagne flute and top off with extra Moscato Rose. Garnish with a raspberry
Mango Peach Sparkler
- 1.5 oz Absolut Mango
- .5 oz Hiram Walker Peach Schnapps
- Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Moscato Rosé
Build in a rocks glass over ice or frozen mango cubes
And why not throw in a little boozy dessert?
Mama Say Mama Sa Ma-Ma-Ma-Su-Ka
• 3 parts Mama Walker’s Maple Bacon Liqueur
• 3 scoops Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
• 3 tsp Chocolate Syrup
Put all ingredients in blender and blend with ice. Pour into highball glass for this frozen treat. Add 1 or 2 sticks of bacon for garnish.
As a disclaimer, I am NOT suggesting drinking sparklers while playing with sparklers, that could get dangerous :)

TGIF everybody! I don’t know about you, but after a shortened week last week, this week seemed to feel longer than usual. After a long week at work there is nothing I look forward to more than a nice Friday cocktail, and this week our Friday Feature Cocktail is a Rum Runner. Drinking rum drinks brings me back to vacations in Jamaica and the Caribbean, and that is exactly where I’ll be going in my mind as I enjoy the warming weather, with my sweet and tropical tasting Rum Runner in hand.
Tropical Rum Runner
- 2 parts Malibu® Tropical Banana
- 1 part Hiram Walker® Blackberry Flavored Brandy
- 2 parts Orange Juice
- 2 parts Pineapple Juice
- 1 part Cranberry Juice
Serve over ice in a tall glass, garnish with fruit.
If any of you have been lucky enough to get your hands on a bottle of the new Malibu® Red (delicious Malibu coconut rum with tequila) try substituting that in for the Malibu® Tropical Banana and let us know what you think!
It is recommended that while enjoying this beverage you are outside, listening to tropical music (Jimmy Buffet anyone?) and preferably, are in the company of good friends.
A lovely view of the Baltimore Inner Harbor from Federal Hill
Last weekend I was visiting a place very near and dear to my heart, my old college city, Baltimore, MD. If anyone has ever seen the movie “Wedding Crashers”, then I’m sure you’re familiar with the quote, “Crab cakes and football! That’s what Maryland does!” While I have discovered this to be extremely accurate, I’ve also noticed that there is another thing Maryland loves: Crushes.
Now I’m not talking about a school girl crush here; I’m talking about the deliciously refreshing, perfect for summer beverage (insert corny joke about having a crush on the crush here). It seemed as though everywhere I ventured the drink menus included a crush of some flavor and even the outdoor concert venue I went to was serving orange crushes with fresh squeezed OJ!
The crush is easy to make, and works as a great addition to the list of summer favorites like Margaritas and Daiquiris.
The Orange Crush
- 1 part Absolut Mandarin
- 1 part Hiram Walker Triple Sec
- 1 part Fresh squeezed Orange Juice
- Splash of Lemon-Lime Soda
- Orange slice garnish
Mix all ingredients, except for lemon-lime soda, in a shaker with ice. Strain the beverage over crushed ice and top with soda. Garnish with an orange slice.
The Orange Crush is the basic flavor, but don’t be afraid to get creative with your crushes! Happy summer sipping everyone!
Hiram Walker Citrus Peach Fuzzy-the perfect frozen treat for a hot summer day!
Memorial Day weekend is almost here, which marks the start of summer for many people. Even though it will still technically be spring, Memorial Day is when we all get our first smell of fired up grills cooking hot dogs and hamburgers, the unofficial scent of summer. Memorial Day is also when pools and beaches open up for the season, and wearing white pants becomes socially acceptable again (if anyone even follows that rule anymore).
If you’re like me, your weekend plans include at least one BBQ, and if your BBQs are like mine, then you’ll be looking for some great cocktail recipes to serve your friends and family. Luckily you came to the right spot, here are some refreshing summer drinks that pair perfectly with cookouts!
MALIBU® RED MARGARITA
- 2 parts MALIBU® RED
- 1 part lime juice
- 1 part simple syrup or agave syrup
- Salt rim
Combine ingredients in a shaker and strain into a rocks glass. Rim glass with salt and garnish with lime.
BLACK & STORMY
- 1-1/2 parts MALIBU® Black
- Fill with ginger beer
Serve over ice in a highball glass.
Lime wedge optional.
…and since it wouldn’t be a BBQ without dessert, here’s a nice boozy dessert you can drink!
Citrus Peach Fuzz
Pour all ingredients into blender; cover with crushed ice and blend until smooth. Pour into Hurricane glass and garnish with a fresh peach slice.
Mix up your drinks, kick back, relax and bring on the BBQs!
It seems that no one was prepared for the “hiatus” (see most favorite posterous update, possibly ever) that was to strike yesterday afternoon when an earthquake rocked in Virginia and traveled all the way up the shoreline to New England. Not a cocktail recipe was to be found coyly playing off the theme, with the exception of this, ermmm, “gem” that my dear friend decided to tweet at me.
Now, with the impending showers and winds that Hurricane Irene is supposedly thwarting on the East Coast this weekend, the need to have a cocktail recipe on hand seems greater than ever. I resort back to last year’s post when Earl was threatening to hit land amidst my travel plans for a friend’s wedding (a layover through Charlotte, NC was the big hurdle at the time!).
Here’s one of the two drinks I featured before that seems fitting of repeat again this week, The Tidal Wave:
Tidal Wave (pictured above)
1 ½ parts Malibu Coconut
¾ parts Pineapple Juice
Splash of Hiram Walker Blue Curacao
Splash of Coconut Cream
Shake vigorously in a shaker and fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a piece of pineapple.
