On Thursday I was fortunate enough to spend the day at the Boston Cocktail Summit (one perk of living in Connecticut is the very easy drive up to Boston)! In honor of my trip I’ve decided that this week’s featured cocktail(I apologize for being a day late) is the Ward Eight, the great cocktail of Boston! David Wondrich took us through the history of this cocktail and Boston’s cocktail history at his seminar on Thursday morning. He talked all about Boston’s drinking culture and how they primarily had been serving variations on classic cocktails but hadn’t created their own signature cocktail, until the Ward Eight came along!
The Ward Eight
- 2 parts rye whiskey
- 3/4 part lemon juice
- 3/4 part orange juice
- Splash of grenadine
At the conclusion of the seminar I enjoyed a Ward Eight mixed by Mr. Wondrich himself, and we all toasted to Billy Kane, who is said to have created the cocktail at Locke-Ober in Boston.
Enjoy!
